The smell of olive oil helps to lose weight

Olive oil helps to stay slim because brings a feeling of satiety. Conclusion employees Munich Technical University of Vienna and is based on the observation of volunteers who daily for three months had consumed 500 grams of yogurt , as well as to supplement your diet with one of four kinds of fats : lard, olive , canola or butter , writes The Daily Mail.According to study author Peter Shiberle , those who consumed olive oil, received fewer calories and not gain weight . A blood test showed that they also have high levels of serotonin - the hormone that gives a feeling of satiety . Such an effect is associated with aromatic components of olive oil. Volunteers felt full , and the number of daily calorie intake decreased by 176." Participants in the study reported that yogurt with olive oil very subjectively satisfying . Within three years, none of them gained weight ," - commented P.Shiberle . According to his confession , the results surprised him work as rapeseed oil contains a similar set of fatty acids. It was then that he decided to spend an additional experiment and found that the whole thing in the aromatics." We have discovered a new way to healthy weight loss. Investigation proved that the aromatic compound regulates the feeling of satiety. We hope that the results contribute to the development of a line of new products designed to feel satiated and promote weight loss ," - says P.Shiberle .

Help TEEN lose weight
Health classes don’t have to focus on just eating right and exercising more, according to the latest study. In fact, they might be more effective if they addressed teens’ mental as well as physical needs.
Researchers led by Bernadette Melnyk, the dean of the nursing school and chief wellness officer at Ohio State University, studied nearly 800 teens aged 14 years to 16 years from varied backgrounds at eleven high schools in the Southwest. Compared to students who received a traditional health class for 15 weekly sessions that focused on topics road safety and infectious disease, those who exercised for 15 to 20 minutes daily and were taught cognitive techniques to reduce stress and anxiety were less a third as likely to gain significant weight. They took an average of around 4000 more steps per day than those in the traditional health class. “Only 2.7% of those [in the program] moved to overweight or obese, whereas almost 9% in the control group [did],” says Melnyk.
The participants receiving the cognitive training also had a 35% drop in drinking by the end of the program. And those who were most depressed at the start of the study moved back into the normal mood range if they received the exercise and coping class.
“These are very exciting findings,” says Patricia Conrod, associate professor of psychiatry at the University of Montreal, who was not connected with the study, “It’s one of first studies to demonstrate that psychological interventions that were originally designed to improve mental health [may] have beneficial effects on other health indicators.”
The program, called COPE for Creating Opportunities for Personal Empowerment, was developed by Melnyk and teaches teens to examine the relationships between their thoughts, emotions and actions. It’s based on cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), which has repeatedly been shown to be an effective treatment for many mental illnesses. Participants learn to identify “activating events”— for example, being told by a classmate that their art project “sucked” — that triggers emotional crises. In such situations, some adolescents immediately fall into a negative spiral, thinking “I can’t do anything right,” or “No one likes me.”
While in the program, however, the students learned how to examine those thoughts and replace them with more positive ones such as, “That’s just one person’s opinion,” or “Ok, maybe this one didn’t work, but I usually do a good job,” says Melnyk. Doing that repeatedly is an effective way to fight depression and anxiety, research finds. Now, studies like this are starting to suggest that it might prevent those disorders entirely if taught early enough.
But what features of COPE were the responsible for the students’ improved mood and weight loss? The fact that both exercise and mental health skills are part of the program makes it hard to distinguish each factor’s role in the final outcome. However, they may be synergistic. “It’s possible that getting moving kick starts the physiological reactions that improve mood and then allow the other changes,” Conrod says, “[But it’s] equally possible that better cognitive and mental health allows them to make changes in their life,” like eating less and moving more.
Melnyk, for her part, believes that the therapy element is the defining feature of the program, noting that many other wellness strategies include exercise without CBT tactics and do not enjoy similar results. The teens also seemed to support her theory, reporting that this part of the program was most helpful for them.
That supports the idea of incorporating more cognitive behavioral approaches in health-based programs, and moving away from the idea that these strategies are only good for the mind. It turns out the they do both mind and body good, and that these contributions may even feed off of each other.
The research was published in the American Journal of Preventive Medicine.

Its Easy to Lose Control on an "All You Can Eat" Vacation
When Doug suggested we take a 16 day cruise for our 20th wedding anniversary I was both delighted and terrified. The last time we went on a cruise or an "all-inclusive" land vacation, I put on pounds that took a long time to remove. These vacations all start out the same way. For a day or so we examine every little morsel that goes in our mouth, avoid the heavy desserts and check out the gym. After a few days we stumble into a margarita tasting or an ice cream social and by the end of the vacation we are ordering multiple entrees and eating a dessert at every meal. We hear ourselves saying, "what the heck, were on vacation" and "its paid for". We manage to squeeze into our largest outfit and fly home avoiding the scale for weeks and hating ourselves for losing our will power. If we take a 16 day cruise (almost twice our longest trip), well have to have a better plan.
How To Take a 16 Day Cruise Without Gaining Weight
First of all, you need to develop a plan that includes "Your Goal", the "Plan to Meet the Goal" along with "Rules for Avoiding Calories" and "Rules to Burn Calories". Dont forget, youve got to write it all down. Heres what I did:
My Goal
To take a 16 day cruise through Christmas and New Years to the Panama Canal WITHOUT gaining a single pound. My pre-cruise weight was 115.5.
The Plan
(1) Keep a journal and write down every calorie eaten and every calorie burned.
(2) "Net" 1386 calories a day. (To maintain weight, you need around 12 to 15 calories for every pound of body weight. To be conservative I used 12 X 115.5 calories or 1386). Net calories is all calories consumed minus all calories burned.
Rules for Avoiding Calories
(1) Skip the bread. I told the waiter to NEVER bring bread and butter to the table. Once that beautiful basket of assorted hot bread is sitting there in front of me, its almost impossible to resist.
(2) Limit alcohol to one glass of wine or Champagne a day and try to skip some days all together (not an easy task given this cruise was over the Christmas and New Years holiday). Avoid high calories mixed drinks completely.
(3) Be VERY specific about food preparation. I asked for "steamed" vegetables, "plain" baked potatoes, salad dressing "on the side", "hold the sauce", "grilled or poached" fish.
(4) Avoid events that give away alcohol or fattening food like martini tastings or ice cream socials.
(5) When eating buffet style, make one visit for the salad/appetizer and one visit for the main meal. Use a smaller plate.
(6) Limit dessert to one small and relatively healthy one per day like fresh fruit, low fat frozen yogurt or a mini fruit tart.
(7) Keep a food journal and WRITE EVERYTHING DOWN. Count all calories consumed (I brought the "Biggest Loser Complete Calorie Counter book with me).
Rules to Burn Calories
(1) NEVER take the elevator on a cruise ship. Walking up and down steps burns lots of calories.
(2) Use the gym every day.
(3) Sign up for exercise and self improvement classes. Azamara offered stretch and exercise classes and gave lectures on acupuncture and detox and tested for body composition. You could even hire a personal trainer.
(4) Walk around the track.
(5) Take the most "strenuous" excursions. Walk, hike or swim and avoid "site seeing bus tours".
(6) Dance
(7) Reward yourself with a massage
(8) WRITE ALL ACTIVITIES DOWN and record calories burned.
Smart Meal Choices if Available
Breakfast
Oatmeal with ground flax, cinnamon, raisins and sunflower seeds
Raw fruit smoothie
Cold cereal like Cheerios or All Bran with soy or skim milk
Egg white omelette with veggies and smoked salmon
Poached egg on an English muffin with Spinach

Lunch
Salads with lots of raw veggies, garbanzo beans, beets, etc. with a light dressing
Fresh fruit platter with low fat cottage cheese
Tuna or lean turkey sandwich with veggies and mustard.
Plain baked potato with steamed veggies
Grilled kabobs and veggies
Dinner
Custom stir fry with lots of veggies, shrimp and white meat chicken on rice or rice noodles
Miso soup and sushi
Grilled or poached fish with steamed veggies and plain rice
Grilled chicken or lean meat with steamed veggies and a plain baked potato
Light, non-cream based soups
Entree sized salads with shrimp, scallops, lobster, chicken breast or flank steak
Desserts
Small piece of chocolate
Low fat frozen yogurt
Sherbet or sugar free ice cream
Small fruit tart
Results
Even though I passed on the richer meals, the food was still amazing. With the beautiful fresh salads and fruit and the delicious selection of seafood, I didnt feel like I was missing out on anything. I ate three wonderful meals a day and a few healthy snacks in between.
I didnt really know how much I weighed on the cruise. The scale in the gym varied with each wave so I had to wait until I got home to see the results. I stuck to my calorie goal and worked out every day. I felt really great. Even without weighing myself, I felt like I was in better shape than when I got on the boat. After getting home I waited a day for the "salty" food to get through my system since I knew that would hold some "water weight". But the moment of truth came the next morning when I stepped on the scale and weighed 115.5 - EXACTLY what I weighed the morning I left for vacation. Doug, who ate and drank a bit more than I did,(but also worked out more) managed to actually lose one pound.
It was the best vacation we ever took. We saw the Panama canal, walked through the cloud forest in Costa Rica and released baby sea turtles to the ocean in Acapulco. We also visited Jamaica, Columbia, Nicaragua, Huatulco and Cabo San Lucas. Best of all, we didnt go home feeling badly about our loss of self control. My hats off to Azamara Cruises for offering all those delicious healthy choices. My "fear of cruises" is gone forever!

Is Weight Loss Your New Years Resolution
How many times have you made your New Years resolution to be about losing weight? Once, twice, maybe three times? How about five, possibly 10? Okay, we get the picture. And how many times has it worked?
I’m guessing if you’re making it yet again for 2015, then chances are it’s not been too successful in the past. Even if the weight has come off initially, you’ve dipped back into old habits, either due to boredom, complacency or fatigue, meaning you end the year in almost exactly the same shape as you started it, only to vow once again to lose weight next January.
That’s the big trouble with new years resolutions in general – they’re doomed to fail. And when it comes to weight loss, this is even more the case perhaps than with any other January goal.
Gyms are at their busiest in January, due to an influx of newbies. Seasoned gym goers know to avoid peak times in January, but if you’re not aware of this, the gym can feel more like being in a tin of sardines than having the luxury of a fitness club membership.
Not only that, but I’ll wager good money you still have plenty of Christmas food sitting around the house. Every time you go to the fridge, the tantalizing aroma of the Christmas cheese selection greets you. Bowls of sweets still adorn every coffee table, mantelpiece and spare gap on the work surfaces and that chocolate Santa eyes you evilly from his perch on the larder, just begging to be eaten.
Also, it’s highly likely you’ve been planning your resolution for weeks, if not months.
And during that time, all you’ve been doing is putting off starting.
Had you made an effort to lose weight, hit the gym and get on a diet plan back in October or November, you’d be going great guns by now. With a little discipline, Christmas would have been enjoyable, but not an all out binge fest, you’d have already made a start in the gym, and would be in much better shape than you are now.
All that being said, you can’t change the past, and a gluttonous December has happened, whether you planned it or not.
The key now is to make sure you stick with your weight loss resolution and achieve your new year goals for the first time ever.
First thing’s first – write down your goal. Not only should you write it down once, you should do in 10 times. Write it on post it notes, on small scraps of paper, and on massive sheets. Use different pens, colours and fonts – go crazy. The more times you write it down, the more likely you are to remember it and have it at the front of your mind all the time.
Done that? Good. Now take every piece of paper and go and put it somewhere you’ll see it at least once a day. The biggest piece can go on your bedroom door or on the inside of your wardrobe. Stick a smaller one on the sun visor in your car, and attach others to the fridge, microwave or your hallway mirror. Now there’s no chance you’ll forget your goals.

Running For Weight Loss 4 Ways That Running is Best for Weight Loss
Looking to slim down? Heres why you should be running.

Any exercise is good exercise, but when it comes to losing weight, it’s hard to beat running. After all, running is one of the most efficient ways to burn calories and get fit without having to restrict your diet. If you’re already a runner, keep on keepin’ on. If you’re not a runner yet but interested in losing weight, here are four reasons running can be the best exercise for weight loss.
1. Running works even when you’re at rest. High-intensity exercise like running stimulates more “afterburn” than low-intensity exercise. That is, even when comparing running with walking the same distance, studies find that running will lead to greater weight loss, most likely because your resting energy expenditure stays elevated after you run. In a long-term comparison study of runners and walkers, calories burned through running led to 90% more weight loss than calories burned through walking.
2. Running is time-efficient. Even if the myth that running a mile and walking a mile burn the same number of calories were true, running is a considerably faster way to burn those calories. Most people can run two or three times as far as they can walk in a given amount of time. At the other end of the spectrum, super-intense but short workouts, such as the "Scientific 7-minute Workout" from the Human Performance Institute, may burn more calories per minute per running, but because theyre so short, your total caloric burn isnt as great if you ran.
3. Running is convenient. Though many of us have accumulated a vast arsenal of GPS gadgets and tech tees over the years, little is actually required to go running. You can do it alone. You can do it almost anywhere. You don’t need any equipment beyond a pair of running shoes. (And if you’re careful about injury and build up slowly, you may not even need those.) For this reason alone, running is the best workout for weight loss because it’s cheap, it’s accessible, and there are fewer barriers to maintaining a routine, even while traveling.
4. Two words: runner’s high. The first rule of exercising for weight loss is that if you don’t enjoy it, you won’t stick with it. Fortunately, studies support what many runners have experienced on an anecdotal level—running can actually get you high. Scientists have found links between moderate to intense exercise and morphine-like brain chemicals called endocannabinoids, which suggest endorphins alone aren’t responsible for the occasional flood of euphoria that rushes over you during a hard run. That floaty, happy sensation you had after your last race—makes you want to go for another run, right?

Natural Weight Loss Natural aids to weight loss
Once you decide on an eating and exercise plan, there are extra measures you can take to boost your weigh-loss efforts. Herbs and supplements can help turn fat into muscle, reduce appetite and boost energy and endurance levels. Many herbs boost your metabolism and resting thermogenesis (resting metabolism). Medical herbalist Dominique Finney says the best time to lose weight is when you are resting. "The most effective weight-loss programs incorporate herbal medicines with exercise. The aim is to keep your energy boosted all day and night, even when you are sleeping. "Herbal medicines can also assist with detoxification of the liver, digestive tract and bloodstream. We all carry from three to 10 kilograms of excess putrid matter in our digestive tract and the herbs help eliminate this." We look at the most common supplements.
Black walnut
Black walnut is famous for its cleansing properties. It helps add motion to the large intestine and eliminates build-ups in the bowel. Herbalists classify it as an astringent because it is rich in tannin, which helps to tone the body.
Guggulsterones
Guggul has been used in ayurvedic medicine for centuries to treat a variety of conditions. It is known for increasing the thyroid glands actions to boost metabolism and it is stimulant-free. Studies have shown it reduces cholesterol and can help reduce body fat levels.
HCA
Hydroxycitric acid (HCA) is used in Indian and Thai food as a condiment. It acts as an appetite suppressant and stops carbohydrates being turned to fat in the liver. Animal studies show HCA could reduce fat production from 40 to 70 per cent for up to 12 hours after eating.
Carb blockers
Carbohydrate blockers contain white kidney bean extract, which interferes with alpha-amylase, an enzyme in the body which breaks down carbohydrates. The carbohydrates are excreted before they enter the bloodstream. Finney advocates eating a good mix of carbohydrates and protein, rather than using carbohydrate blockers. "You will lose weight quickly, but the weight loss is unsustainable."
Amino acids
Body builders have been using amino acids for years to sculpt and tone their bodies. Amino acids are particularly helpful for those who are doing a lot of exercise as they are the building blocks for protein, and are needed to build and repair muscle. The list doesnt end there. Eating a green food daily such as spirulina, barley or alfalfa will help reduce your appetite. If your thyroid is slow in regulating your metabolism, you could try a kelp supplement. Supplements help speed up weight loss, but diet is crucial. Finney says the key is still burning more kilojoules than you put into your mouth.
Chromium and magnesium
Magnesium has been found to raise the resting metabolism of obese people. Chromium picolinate not only works as an appetite suppressant, it helps curb cravings. Naturopath Aimee Robbins says increased chromium levels help muscle cells and the liver store more glucose, boost energy levels and reduce body fat. "High glucose storage in the liver also reduces hunger pains and the desire for food."
Dandelion
This herb cleanses the liver and kidneys, while removing excess fluids. Its good for those on a low-carb diet, where its important to keep the organs of elimination flushed. A study on mice saw them lose 30 per cent of their body weight when fed dandelion over a 30-day period.
Brindleberry
Brindleberry has been used in Thai and Indian cuisine for years and is probably the best herb to suppress your appetite between meals. "It should be used with chromium to assist increased muscle and liver uptake of glucose," Robbins says.
Guarana
Guarana is one of the richest sources of caffeine - it has three times as much as coffee - which is why it suppresses the appetite. Because of its stimulating effect it helps burn fat, is a tonic and diuretic and boosts energy.
Drink yourself slim
Tea boosts the metabolism, flushes out toxins and curbs hunger pangs. The caffeine increases body function to help burn kilojoules and the polyphenols aid fat digestion. The weight-loss benefits of green tea are well known, but oolong, brindleberry, dandelion, St Marys thistle, globe artichoke and guarana teas also help shed kilos.
Spice up your food
Forget flavouring your food with salt. Try adding some herbs and spices. Research shows most herbs are rich in antioxidants, which support weight loss. Try allspice, basil, cloves, coriander, dill, fennel leaves, mint, nutmeg, parsley, rosemary or sage. Cinnamon is another winner that enhances insulin activity. MMA Fighter Dies In Sauna While Attempting To Lose Weight For A Fight
Youtube Screen GrabA Brazilian MMA fighter died on Thursday while trying to make weight for his upcoming fight in Rio De Janeiro, Brazil.
The 26-year old Leandro "Feijao" Souza passed out moments before the official weigh-ins for the Shooto 43 fight card, according to MMAfighting.com
MMA fighters are often known for cutting weight by shedding water right before fights through dehydration tactics.
After the fight they refuel themselves back to their normal weight, which can be 10, 20, or even 30 pounds above the fight weight limit.
Souza fought at the flyweight division, which is the smallest weight division in MMA. The required weight limit is 125 pounds. Authorities have not confirmed the cause of his death yet but his trainer Andre Santos told mmafighting.com that his death is linked to the weight cut:
"We don’t have much information yet but we do know that is related to his weight cut...His sister called me saying that he had passed out so I went to the hospital, but he was already dead when I got there".
According to Santos, Souza was attempting to take the fight on short notice and needed to lose 33 pounds in one week. Not only that, he still had 11 pounds to lose in the last 24 hours right before the weigh-ins. Souza was two pounds short of the weight limit when they found him dead inside a sauna.

7 Foods That Are Great For Natural Weight Loss

I healed my body naturally from chronic disease, and in the process lost over 60 pounds, without drugs, deprivation or surgery. Along the way, I discovered that some foods are healing and have the ability to promote health within our bodies, while others can actually cause harm and create weight gain.
Here are some of my personal favorite healing foods that can promote health and support natural weight loss.
1. Broth
When my body broke down, I was bedridden for weeks. As part of my journey back to health, I felt very fortunate to discover the healing power of broth.
Broth can be made easily by cooking chopped organic vegetables in water, until they are super soft. (Bonus points if your vegetables are also local!) Leave six hours or overnight. Then drain the liquid, heat it up, and voila! Your soup broth is ready to drink. Add sea salt and pepper for taste if you want.
You can eat the cooked vegetables seasoned with fresh herbs. (You can also add fish, meat or grains to your broth depending on your preferences.) This can be very healing for your body, since its easy to digest, and also hydrating.
2. Extra virgin coconut oil
Many health experts agree that coconut oil is as close to a superfood that you can get. High in lauric acid (found naturally in breast milk), extra virgin coconut oil is anti-aging, moisturizing, and healing. Its the only oil that you should ever cook with since it stays stable when heated to high temperatures.
3. Apple cider vinegar
Apple cider vinegar is produced through the fermentation of fresh apple cider. Its a rich source of minerals (particularly potassium), vitamins, enzymes and amino acids. Apple cider vinegar is a potent and versatile healing substance and can be applied topically or diluted and taken internally.
Always choose good quality apple cider vinegar made from organically grown apples and aged in wooden barrels. It should be pungent and when held up to the light, you should be able to see a cobweb like formation, called the “mother” suspended in the liquid. Its evidence of the vinegar’s naturalness.
4. Cinnamon
It may be hard to believe that something that tastes so delicious is also so good for your body. Eating cinnamon has the ability to regulate your blood sugars, which is an important part of the weight loss process. Generously sprinkle cinnamon on your cereal or add it to your smoothies for a flavor injection.
5. Lemons
Lemons are naturally detoxifying and have an alkalizing effect on your body. This makes them an ideal weight loss food. Each day upon waking, drink a glass of water with a squeeze of fresh lemon. For a delicious, yet healthy taste, squeeze fresh lemon juice onto your food just before serving.
6. Fresh juices
Drinking a selection of fresh fruit and vegetable juices in your day, your body will certainly feel the benefit. Fresh juices are a powerful way to increase your intake of antioxidants, minerals, vitamins and enzymes. You can juice most fruits and vegetables. I try to choose the greenest, water-rich and most alkalizing ones for my own juices, using some (or all!) of the following: spinach or cucumber, celery, pears, apples, ginger and lemon.
7. Fresh greens and vegetables
I encourage you to try a wide variety of fresh greens and vegetables to find all the ones you like. Always eat your greens according to the seasons. Some of my favorites are baby spinach, parsley, basil green leaves, broccoli, celery, cucumber, and chard.
Healing foods are found everywhere in nature.
Always listen to your body and let it guide you. Your body knows best how to heal itself naturally. Eating healing foods will help.
I hope that this article inspires you to start eating more fresh, local foods so that you can experience the incredible joy that comes from feeling healthy and losing weight naturally, without diets, deprivation or restrictions.
