Vegetarian diet what are the risks

Vegetarian and vegan diets are they exposed to deficiencies?

Why and how to fix it?

Vegetarian and vegan diet: whats the difference?
The vegetarian diet is to eat mainly of plant foods. Certain animal products are allowed, usually dairy and eggs, but excluding strictly meat.

But when strictly no animal foods are tolerated (meat, milk, eggs), the term vegan or vegan diet.

Are vegetarians exposed to deficiencies? How about it?
Without meat, one might fear a risk of protein deficiency.

Remember that protein intakes depend on those amino acids (basic protein components), some of which are considered essential that is to say, the body can not synthesize and must therefore be made mandatory in sufficient quantities by the diet.

But plants contain, too, of the essential amino acids. Thus, they provide good quality protein. However, beware, all food categories do not provide the same types of proteins. Thus, legumes and grains do not contain the same essential amino acids.
And unless there are animal products authorized in the diet, the more this association is crucial. Thus it must be systematic in vegans. This association is also found in many traditional dishes and chick peas in semolina couscous, chickpea soup and bread, curry rice and legumes (beans, lentils), etc.

Vegetarian attention to iron deficiency ...
This risk of iron deficiency is most feared among women due to their menstrual bleeding, and children whose needs have increased.

Among other vegetarians, the risk is low because even if the iron of animal origin is better absorbed than that from plants, it represents more than 85% of dietary iron. Moreover, absorption of iron increases when there is a deficit.

And finally, the high consumption of fruits and vegetables vegetarian makes a significant amount of vitamin C, vitamin known to enhance the absorption of iron by the body.

Regarding the two at-risk populations (children and menstruating women), iron supplementation may be necessary. Ideally, it should be considered in consultation with her doctor.

What are the best sources of vegetable protein?
Legumes: white beans, red beans, kidney beans, lentils, soy (tofu, soy milk), peas, peanuts.
Cereals: wheat, semolina, rice, corn, quinoa, millet, barley, oats, bulgur.

Low Sugar or Sugar Free Chocolate Treats for Your Valentine many are Gluten Free

Valentine's Day is almost here, and I've got you covered with some low-sugar or sugar-free chocolate treats.

Low-Sugar or Sugar-Free Chocolate Treats for Your Valentine (many are Gluten-Free) from KalynsKitchen.com

I don't think there's any doubt that holidays are more challenging for dieters or people who need to limit sugar than day-to-day eating, and holidays like Valentine's Day that are strongly associated with sugary treats can make even the most steadfast person lose their resolve.  Through the years I've tested a lot of low-sugar or sugar-free chocolate treats, but not many of them have been good enough to make it on to the blog.  Here's a collection of the chocolate treats that made the cut and many of them are also gluten-free as well.  I hope one of these can help you celebrate Valentine's Day without completely abandoning your diet; just click the link under the photo to see each recipe.

Are You Going To Eat Real Food Again

Alright, show of hands. Anyone else feel like the holiday season has lasted inordinately long this year? They start decking the halls the second the Halloween decorations are put away, and the local radio stations been playing holiday music 24/7 since Thanksgiving. All the to-ing and fro-ing, the endless parties, the hype and hoopla. Its just over the top.

And Good Lord, the food! The Hungarians gathered, not once but twice, over the course of a four-day period to celebrate (read: feast and drink themselves into a stupor). Funny thing – when were doing the imbibing, we rarely notice the gluttony. I never noticed the vast amount of alcohol my family members consume until I took my last drink in 1990.

To not drink or not eat is seen as a personal affront. My not-drinking created more of a ruckus than my drinking ever did (and trust me, I created plenty a ruckus back in the day). A chorus of "Oh cmon, you can have just one" was heard at every family event for years thereafter. The words addict, alcoholic, disease, and no thank you just didnt register.

I have a life-threatening allergy to alcohol and cannot safely drink finally did the trick, and the Hungarians never bothered me again. Now, its just common knowledge that I dont consume alcohol. A non-issue, really.

...now that youve lost all this weight, are you going to start eating real food again?

I was able to placate and make them verrrrry happy in other ways. I ate. A lot. Yup, ever since I was a baby theyd coo, "Oh shes such a good eater." So, you might imagine the hubbub Ive created the last six months of choosing to eat – gasp! – raw, living food. The horror of it all. The ongoing litany of "Oh, its just some crazy diet shes on" is the only saving grace thats kept them from bursting a collective blood vessel.

Just as were about to sit down to eat on Christmas Eve, my eldest brother asks, "Hey, now that youve lost all this weight, are you going to start eating real food again?" Everyone stops mid-motion and it becomes absolutely quiet as 17 pairs of eyes are now on me, waiting for that resounding "Why yes! Please pass the chicken paprikash" (and all will be right with the world, amen).

Isnt it funny? Real food: injected with growth hormones, antibiotics and preservatives; smothered in sugar, flour or fat; depleted of any and all vitamins, minerals and enzymes.

Yes well, even though I chose not to eat any of that "real food" (*smirk*) over the holidays, I know I consumed more nuts – almonds, pecans, cashews, walnuts – in the last four weeks than I have in the past four years. Somehow, I managed not to gain any weight. Didnt lose any either. So, this is the first month since July that the scale has not moved down. Thats okay. Im still going to bid adieu to 2008, 73 pounds lighter. Yup, gonna keep eating that "crazy" stuff that comes right from the earth and is filled with life force energy.

Wanna join me?

7 Foods That Are Great For Natural Weight Loss

I healed my body naturally from chronic disease, and in the process lost over 60 pounds, without drugs, deprivation or surgery. Along the way, I discovered that some foods are healing and have the ability to promote health within our bodies, while others can actually cause harm and create weight gain.
Here are some of my personal favorite healing foods that can promote health and support natural weight loss.
1. Broth
When my body broke down, I was bedridden for weeks. As part of my journey back to health, I felt very fortunate to discover the healing power of broth.
Broth can be made easily by cooking chopped organic vegetables in water, until they are super soft. (Bonus points if your vegetables are also local!) Leave six hours or overnight. Then drain the liquid, heat it up, and voila! Your soup broth is ready to drink. Add sea salt and pepper for taste if you want.
You can eat the cooked vegetables seasoned with fresh herbs. (You can also add fish, meat or grains to your broth depending on your preferences.) This can be very healing for your body, since its easy to digest, and also hydrating.
2. Extra virgin coconut oil
Many health experts agree that coconut oil is as close to a superfood that you can get. High in lauric acid (found naturally in breast milk), extra virgin coconut oil is anti-aging, moisturizing, and healing. Its the only oil that you should ever cook with since it stays stable when heated to high temperatures.
3. Apple cider vinegar
Apple cider vinegar is produced through the fermentation of fresh apple cider. Its a rich source of minerals (particularly potassium), vitamins, enzymes and amino acids. Apple cider vinegar is a potent and versatile healing substance and can be applied topically or diluted and taken internally.
Always choose good quality apple cider vinegar made from organically grown apples and aged in wooden barrels. It should be pungent and when held up to the light, you should be able to see a cobweb like formation, called the “mother” suspended in the liquid. Its evidence of the vinegar’s naturalness.
4. Cinnamon
It may be hard to believe that something that tastes so delicious is also so good for your body. Eating cinnamon has the ability to regulate your blood sugars, which is an important part of the weight loss process. Generously sprinkle cinnamon on your cereal or add it to your smoothies for a flavor injection.
5. Lemons
Lemons are naturally detoxifying and have an alkalizing effect on your body. This makes them an ideal weight loss food. Each day upon waking, drink a glass of water with a squeeze of fresh lemon. For a delicious, yet healthy taste, squeeze fresh lemon juice onto your food just before serving.
6. Fresh juices
Drinking a selection of fresh fruit and vegetable juices in your day, your body will certainly feel the benefit. Fresh juices are a powerful way to increase your intake of antioxidants, minerals, vitamins and enzymes. You can juice most fruits and vegetables. I try to choose the greenest, water-rich and most alkalizing ones for my own juices, using some (or all!) of the following: spinach or cucumber, celery, pears, apples, ginger and lemon.
7. Fresh greens and vegetables
I encourage you to try a wide variety of fresh greens and vegetables to find all the ones you like. Always eat your greens according to the seasons. Some of my favorites are baby spinach, parsley, basil green leaves, broccoli, celery, cucumber, and chard.
Healing foods are found everywhere in nature.
Always listen to your body and let it guide you. Your body knows best how to heal itself naturally. Eating healing foods will help.
I hope that this article inspires you to start eating more fresh, local foods so that you can experience the incredible joy that comes from feeling healthy and losing weight naturally, without diets, deprivation or restrictions. Jennifer Garner says her days of ‘extreme’ dieting are over

JENNIFER Garner is a working actress and busy mother of three who makes time for strength-training circuit workouts four or five days a week. But she recently told professional makeup artist and Yahoo beauty editor-in-chief Bobbi Brown that her days of intense dieting are a thing of the past.
“I dieted for so long in the middle of doing ‘Alias’ and being a superhero, that there’s something in me that can’t do anything that extreme,” she told Yahoo.
While Garner says she is content with her weight, she told Yahoo that her biggest beauty challenge stems from her skin.
“I’ve had more acne as an adult than I had as a teenager. After weaning babies my skin’s gone totally bonkers. I didn’t even know about dermatologists until I had weaned my first baby, and my skin was so damaged,” she said.
Garner and husband Ben Affleck have three children together: Violet, 9, Seraphina, 6, and Samuel, 2. The actress, who wrapped up four films in 2014, said it’s harder to focus on her career than it is to focus on being a mom.
“It’s not hard to be hands-on to the kids,” Garner said. “It’s harder to feel like, ‘Wait, you want me to go where? I’m supposed to do what?’ I have to remind myself to have a career.”
Though it’s sometimes hard to focus on anything but home life, the 42-year-old told Elle in October 2014 that support from Affleck is what motivates her to continue acting:
My ambition shifted when I had kids in a way that I didn’t anticipate. I became more ambitious for my life as a whole, and for that kind of health and happiness of the overall family unit. And that very much includes my husband and very much includes me. My husband is always the one saying to me, ‘You have to work, you have to work. This is part of who you are. We’ll figure it out.’ That’s powerful, when your partner has that serious mantra.
