Maximum Heart Rate Chart Age Predicted Max Pulse Rate

Our Heart is the only organ in our body that works continuously for our whole life. its starts pumping blood while we are our mothers womb and continues this work till we die. No other work can be compared to that. Our heart increases the pumping rate when our body is in need of energy and then slows down as we rest. Sometimes this query arises in our mind that whats the maximum heart rate possible. And if there is some maximum limit to that, then does it vary by age. We will try to answer these questions in this article.

What is Heart Rate ?

Heart Rate is the average speed of heart to pump the blood. Average heart rate is 72 in normal human being in resting position in one minute. In each of these 72 cycles our heart expands and then contracts to pump the blood out into blood vessels. 72 is an average figure for normal hear rate . In some people it might be a little bit up and down.

Maximum Heart Rate Chart by Age

Our heart also have some limitations in terms of maximum heart rate. After all its just a pumping machine with certain limits due to its size. However this pumping machine is better than many others. It will take a complete article if we start discussing about how heart works. Here we are only discussing the maximum heart rate.  The table below contains the maximum heart by age.

Max Pulse Rate by Age

Pulse Rate is another synonym for heart rate. In short we also call it pulse. Doctors usually check it by holding our wrists. As the chart above shows the max pulse rate (Max HR) by age. Its calculated by using a formula.

Maximum Heart Rate = 205.5 - (0.685 * Age)

Its the formula accepted in most number of researches. Previously there was another formula  (220 - Age) . But later its found that the max pulse rate shown by this formula is not correct.

If my heart starts beating above the maximum heart rate then will i die ?

The answer is no. But if you are not physically fit than your chances of a heart attack will increase. However it depends from person to person. If you are athletic in nature, then your maximum heart rate limit might have increased. But if you are over weight then you are at risk if your heart starts beating above the maximum heart rate. The chart shown above is just according to age. There is no factor of weight. However it should be. We will update this information as soon as we get new updates about any new researches.

According the medical practitioners the figures given by the above formula is just for a person with normal capabilities. A person with good athletic capabilities can easily increase this limit to a greater extent.

Does our heart become weak as we age ?

The maximum hear rate formula accept this thing that our heart becomes weak as we age. But some people dont think that its true. Researches are going on to find these facts. But as i said earlier the our heart can remain fit for a longer period if we indulge in regular workout or physical activities. Our hear can work in 40s in the same way as it works in 20s but we need to take care of it in our daily routine.

Health is the best wealth. Preserve it.

Acne Treatment Home Remedies and Medicines

Acne, medically known as acne vulgaris, is a skin disease involving sebaceous glands and hair follicles. When the sebaceous glands become overactive or inflamed, the pimples or nodules appear on skin. It is a life threatening, or a very alarming disease yet it has a lot to do with the self-esteem. Teenagers are one who is affected most by acne. It causes scars on the face, neck, chest and shoulders that interfere with good looks. It is one of the causes of persistent stress for many young ones.

What causes acne?

It is necessary to know the causative factors of acne in order to get rid of this disease. The main factors that precipitate the acne are:
  • Increased oil production
  • Bacterial residing in skin
  • Hormonal changes (increased androgens)
  • Skin irritation due to imbalance shedding or environmental factors
  • Genetic causes
  • Increased number of sebaceous glands
  • Dirt
  • Stress
  • Cosmetic products
  • Drugs (such as steroids)
  • Greasy and junk foods

Treatment of acne

The main theme of acne treatment is to lower the oil production, to control the sebaceous glands, to avoid the hair follicles’ irritation and to keep the hormones in a balance. Most of us want an over the night treatment but it is not possible. It takes about 3 months to cure the acne.

Home Remedies

There are a lot of easy things that can eradicate your acne problem. These are cheap and easily available methods without any side effects. Some main natural remedy tips are:

  • First of all, have a look at your diet. Is it balanced? Food has a lot much to do with our hormones and natural hygiene of body. So take a well balanced food containing fruits and raw vegetables.
  • Apply lemon juice or fresh squeezed lemon on your skin. Lemon is antibacterial because of its acidity, so it can help clear your skin.
  • Tea tree oil is also an antibacterial and is very useful in getting rid of acne.
  • Honey is both an antiseptic agent and also a good moisturizer. Hence, it can also be very helpful in case of acne.
  • Cucumber, orange peel and grapes are rich in vitamin C and are effective in treating acne.

Medicines

The medical treatment becomes compulsory in case of very severe acne. It may include:

  • Topical agents: There are some products available that you put on your affected skin and get desired results. Commonly used topical agents include sulfur, salicylic acid, benzyl peroxide, tretinoin and some other antibiotics.
  • Oral drugs: In case of severe acne, several oral medications are also used to decrease the bacterial growth. Drugs are also given to reduce the inflammation along with topical creams.

Drop In and Decorate Cookies for Donation

I first heard of this fantastic organization about a year ago. I was smack dab in the end-of-the-year craziness in the slow cooking challenge, and instead of jumping in to help, I merely bookmarked the website.

This year is different. This year I look forward to making a bunch of plain cookies, and working with our Girl Scout Troop to decorate them for a good cause. I used to run a child care center that served homeless families, and Im looking forward to bundling our cookies up to bring to some very deserving children and families.

There are very few rules, which is why I really, really like this project. You dont need to bake (unless you want to). You dont need to make your own icing (unless you want to). All you need is a few of your favorite friends, and an open and giving heart.

My friend, Lydia, started Drop in and Decorate in 2007. It has grown phenomenally. Heres a bit of background on this not-for-profit organization:Collapse

Drop In & Decorate is a tax-exempt nonprofit organization.
Founded by food writer Lydia Walshin of The Perfect Pantry. The idea behind Drop In & Decorate is simple: bake some cookies; gather a group of family, friends, neighbors, co-workers, your worship group or book group to decorate the cookies together; donate the cookies to a nonprofit agency serving basic human needs in your own community.
It’s a simple idea in a complicated world, and something anyone can do.
If you’d like to host your own Drop In & Decorate® event, Pillsbury and Wilton would like to help.
Pillsbury has donated 50 VIP coupons, worth $3.00 each, off any Pillsbury product -- including sugar cookie mix and icing -- to be distributed, first come, first served, while supply lasts, to anyone who plans to host a Drop In & Decorate event (max. 5 coupons per person). And well include a Comfort Grip cookie cutter, donated by Wilton, to people who plan to host cookies-for-donation events.
Write to lydia AT ninecooks DOT com for more info on how to get your free coupons and cookie cutters.

My girls are quite excited to participate in this event. While I type this, theyre looking over my shoulder and would like to do it twice---once with the girl scouts, and again with friends and family.

Thank you to Lydia for this fantastic way to give back to the local community, and for providing a beautiful opportunity to make a difference while creating family memories.

PS. Today (November 15) at 5pm pacific, the $200 Best Buy Gift Card give-away over on my review blog will finally end. Its your last chance to throw your name in the pot.

xoxo steph

CrockPot Ranch Vegetables

Day 195!

One hundred and ninety-five. Holy cow.

I made the easiest vegetables yesterday in my four quart crockpot. We had a busy day planned, and I wasnt able to get to the grocery store. We also have SO many leftovers from last week, that we needed to desperately clean out the refrigerator.

The Ingredients.

--5 cups of fresh vegetables. I had broccoli, two different bell peppers, and tomatoes in the house, so thats what I used. I think carrots would have been a nice addition, and squash, if I had any.

--1 packet dry ranch dressing mix (please read label carefully if you have allergies. I used Hidden Valley Original mix.

--1/4 cup water

The Directions.

--wash and trim all the veggies
--dump them into the crock. 5-6 cups of fresh vegetables will fit in a 3.5 qt or larger crockpot.
--sprinkle in the ranch dressing mix, toss gingerly with a large spoon to coat vegetables a bit
--add 1/4 cup of water

Cover and cook on low for 2-4 hours. The vegetables are done when they reach desired tenderness for your family. I like vegetables to have a crisp to them, and took ours out of the crock at 2.5 hours.

The Verdict.

This is a simple way to have steamed, flavorful vegetables as an accompaniment to your main meal. My kids both really like broccoli, and they like ranch dressing.

The flavor is mild, it isnt dripping in flavor; which is okay with me---we like vegetables to taste like vegetables. If you are trying to mask the vegetables completely, you might want 2 packets of seasoning.

I was surprised at how much liquid formed in the crockpot. There wasnt tons, but I think you could get away with 2-3 tablespoons of water instead of a whole 1/4 cup.

It is impossible to escape the "big food" season. In fact, why are we deprive these friendly fun, family and food, even if you are in battle with his or her cholesterol pounds?

Do you provide what is particularly rich in fat: meats, fermented cheese, pastries, too rich butter sauces but also in oil, such as mayonnaise, remoulade, etc.

Make your salad yourself.
Accommodate your salad with a little oil, even if it is olive, because it is as fat as the others, even if it is good for the arteries.

If you do not usually drink plenty of water between and during meals.

Participate without much thought. So to have a clear conscience:

before, drink lots of water;
after, compensate. Vegetable soup, yogurt, apple and mandarin restore equilibrium;
and water, always water!

Review of essential
Lobster, crayfish and other crustaceans
They are rich in protein and do not contain lipids (fats). However, the sauces are well equipped, especially the traditional mayonnaise. You can replace it with a sauce of cream (less fat than oil), lemon juice and herbs. Delicious and more original.

Oysters and shellfish
They are quite recommended because of their beneficial richness in minerals and vitamins. But also their lack of fat and few calories they contain. Drink, then, without a second thought:

with the least amount of butter on the bread, of course! Take it out of the fridge well in advance so that it is soft: so, it puts less on toast.

Best Ways to Lose Extra Pounds

Many of us have had weight problems at least once in the life. When the extra pounds become a problem, each of us is trying to get rid of them and we search for the best weight loss program. We all know very well that the extra pounds influences our lives, make us lose confidence in ourselves, be ashamed of the way we look.

Nowadays there are many methods of weight loss, from food diets to slimming exercises and pills that promise to do wonders for your body. In many commercials companies promote their products as the best solution to get rid of extra pounds in no time. The temptation is great and many people get to use all sorts of products and keep all sorts of very severe food diets hoping for miraculous results. Some of these methods indeed give the desired result, making people happy at the moment because they have managed to lose weight, but after giving up the product they are amazed to notice that as quickly as they got off those pounds, they start again taking weight, sometimes more than the loss weight.

Before you decide which method you will follow to get rid of extra pounds you must be informed about that method, and nowadays information became easily accessible through the internet, with a few clicks you can find information about the results of each method and even opinions of those who used that method. It is true that every body is different and not all react the same way, but if a product is really good you will surely find more positive opinions than negative ones.

Besides the fact that you may regain the pounds that you struggled to get rid of, many of the products available on the market contain chemicals harmful to the body, so that in time may appear different diseases caused by them, or in the worst case, they can contain addictive substances. Therefore you must be very well informed about the product you want to use.

Besides this, before starting a weight loss program, you should first check which is the cause that led to weight gain because it can be a health issue and then you first have to solve this problem and then have to worry about losing weight. In addition, you can spend money on all sorts of products that should help get rid of extra pounds, but that have no effect because of the disturbance you suffer . Weight disorders may have more health-related causes such as stress or hormonal disorder caused by thyroid disease, so be wise to do some analysis before you start any weight loss program.

If you have done this, and you have no health problem, then you can search for a weight loss program that is suitable. Do not be impressed by the methods that are supposed to wonder would you get rid of a lot of pounds in a little while because as I said is not always so. The safest and surest way to get rid of extra pounds remains changing your diet and lifestyle, and of course the exercises play a very important role in this process, so if possible try to do some exercise every day, regardless if you go jog in the park or prefer to go to the gym.

Halloween Slow Cooker Recipes

Happy Halloween! Put your slow cooker to good use this weekend to keep all the goblins in your life happy and well-fed.

Witchs Brew. Green, slimy, sweet, and sour. The star anise look like tiny little spiders--fun!

Caramel Apples. YUM. I made these for the first time on my daughters 7th birthday. Now shes 10, and her LITTLE sister is 7. Im not okay with this.

Autumn Sausage Casserole. A bowl full of fall. Great dinner to fill the belly before heading out for the night.

Chocolate and Marshmallow Fondue. Skip the waxy supermarket Halloween candy and make the good stuff.

Jamaican Pumpkin Soup. A rich, velvety, creamy soup-- restaurant quality and super delicious. You decide the amount of cream to add at the table.

Mulled Wine. Warm up after a chilly night out with a hot mug of mulled wine. The perfect by-the-fire adult drink.

Pizza Soup. The kids have requested this for dinner this Halloween--liquid pizza. If you normally order pizza delivery before heading out,  make this instead to satisfy your pepperoni craving.

Pumpkin Spice Latte. The one and only!

Roasted Pumpkin Seeds in the Slow Cooker. Yes, you can roast pumpkin seeds in the crockpot. But that doesnt mean you should. Its kind of a pain.

Orange Glazed Beets. Food that bleeds! Fantastic for Halloween--- if youre a beet fan, youll like these an awful lot. If you arent a beet fan, you probably never will be. Thats okay. Im not either.

Stewed Tomatoes. They look like baby animal hearts, which is great for a spooky dinner, but taste A.M.A.Z.I.N.G. ---even if you arent a big tomato fan.

Have a wonderful Halloween weekend, and enjoy your trick-or-treating! Viva la Crocktober!

Vegetarian diet what are the risks

Vegetarian and vegan diets are they exposed to deficiencies?

Why and how to fix it?

Vegetarian and vegan diet: whats the difference?
The vegetarian diet is to eat mainly of plant foods. Certain animal products are allowed, usually dairy and eggs, but excluding strictly meat.

But when strictly no animal foods are tolerated (meat, milk, eggs), the term vegan or vegan diet.

Are vegetarians exposed to deficiencies? How about it?
Without meat, one might fear a risk of protein deficiency.

Remember that protein intakes depend on those amino acids (basic protein components), some of which are considered essential that is to say, the body can not synthesize and must therefore be made mandatory in sufficient quantities by the diet.

But plants contain, too, of the essential amino acids. Thus, they provide good quality protein. However, beware, all food categories do not provide the same types of proteins. Thus, legumes and grains do not contain the same essential amino acids.
And unless there are animal products authorized in the diet, the more this association is crucial. Thus it must be systematic in vegans. This association is also found in many traditional dishes and chick peas in semolina couscous, chickpea soup and bread, curry rice and legumes (beans, lentils), etc.

Vegetarian attention to iron deficiency ...
This risk of iron deficiency is most feared among women due to their menstrual bleeding, and children whose needs have increased.

Among other vegetarians, the risk is low because even if the iron of animal origin is better absorbed than that from plants, it represents more than 85% of dietary iron. Moreover, absorption of iron increases when there is a deficit.

And finally, the high consumption of fruits and vegetables vegetarian makes a significant amount of vitamin C, vitamin known to enhance the absorption of iron by the body.

Regarding the two at-risk populations (children and menstruating women), iron supplementation may be necessary. Ideally, it should be considered in consultation with her doctor.

What are the best sources of vegetable protein?
Legumes: white beans, red beans, kidney beans, lentils, soy (tofu, soy milk), peas, peanuts.
Cereals: wheat, semolina, rice, corn, quinoa, millet, barley, oats, bulgur.

An Evolving Journey Back To Health

And the day came when the risk to remain tight in a bud
was more painful than the risk it took to blossom. ~ Anais Nin

On the last summer solstice, I set an intention to change my relationship to food and to regain my health. Funny how the Universe conspires to support us. Through a seemingly chance encounter, I was introduced to the idea of a raw, living foods diet and thats been the road Ive chosen to follow. Its been an interesting journey for sure. And, one that continues to evolve.

Theres a wonderful website I often frequent called Evolving Wellness™ that focuses on holistic health and natural living. Evita shares informative, well-researched articles, product reviews and recipes. Today, Im the feature of her monthly Evolving Wellness In Action series.

Slow Cooker Little Smokies Appetizer Recipe s

Its a 2 for 1 day! I made two different types of Little Smokies a little bit ago to see which ones the kids liked better. I made one batch the super easy way that our family has made for parties numerous times, and I made a slightly-more-difficult (and sophisticated? can Little Smokies ever be considered sophisticated?) version to do a blind taste test.
The results? It was a tie. It was me and Adam and the two girls and it was a complete split down the middle. One kid and one adult on each side.

Oh! and since I made them both a few weeks ago and am evidently getting really really old, I have no idea which finish picture goes with which stack of ingredients.

grr.

So! I think we should let the internet decide...
1) which photo do you think goes with which smokies? and 2) if you do make these, which do you and your family prefer?

:-)

Grape Jelly and Chili Sauce Little Smokies
The Ingredients
serves 8

1 pound Little Smokies sausage
1 (12-ounce) bottle chili sauce (housed by the ketchup)
1 (18-ounce) jar grape jelly

The Directions.
Use a 4-quart slow cooker. Put the smokies into the slow cooker, and pour in the sauces. Stir to combine. Cover and cook on low for 4 hours, or high for 2 or until the smokies are heated through. Serve out of the crock with toothpicks.
Big Barbecue Little Smokies
The Ingredients
serves 8

1 pound Little Smokies sausage
1/2 cup ketchup
1/2 cup brown sugar
1 teaspoon gluten free Worcestershire sauce
1/2 cup barbecue sauce (check for gluten!)

The Directions.
Use a 4-quart slow cooker. Dump it all in! Stir well and cook on low for 4 hours, or high for about 2. Make sure the smokies are hot throughout and serve out of the crock with toothpicks.

alrighty then! My verdict is mixed, so let me know yours when you have the opportunity.

Slow Cooker Roasted Wasabi Almonds Recipe

Sometimes you feel like a nut...

sometimes you dont want an ordinary one...

Hmm. It doesnt really have the same ring now, does it?

oh well. I was at a farmers market over the summer and got handed a cellophane bag full of roasted almonds sprinkled with wasabi powder.

It I was a normal person, I would have eaten the nuts, enjoyed them, and moved on. Instead, I immediately thought:  oooh. I need to make these in the crockpot.

so I did!

The Ingredients.
serves 10

1 egg white
1 tablespoon water
1 tablespoon soy sauce (La Choy and Tamari wheat free are gluten free)
1 pound raw almonds
2 teaspoons cornstarch
2 tablespoons wasabi powder
1 teaspoon kosher salt

The Directions.

Use a 2-quart slow cooker (you can use a big one, but stay close by and stir often to ward off possible burning). In a bowl, whisk together the egg white, water, and soy sauce until its foamy. Toss the almonds in this mixture until they are wet. Set aside.
In a zippered plastic bag, combine the wasabi powder, kosher salt, and cornstarch. Drain any additional liquid from the almonds, and then dump the wet almonds into your zippered bag. Close well and shake until the almonds are nicely coated.

Pour these coated almonds into your slow cooker and cover. Cook on low for 2 to 4 hours, or until toasty (the almonds will brown a  bit and youll definitely smell them. They will NOT be crunchy, but dont worry, they will be later!)

Spread out a layer of foil or parchment paper onto the countertop and dump out the nuts. Let the almonds dry completely before munching. Store in an air-tight container in the refrigerator.

The Verdict.

I love how nuts roast so beautifully in the cooker---dont worry if some are more brown than others---thats what makes them homemade! The flavor of the wasabi is subtle, and not spicy at all. The kids gobbled up their portions and I needed to take them away before they ate the ones I wanted to give away. If youd prefer a stronger (spicier) flavor, you can sprinkle additional wasabi on top of your roasted nuts.

I was certain wasabi powder was going to cost a million dollars (or something close to it) but I was happily surprised to find it for $3.99 in the Asian cooking aisle of our normal grocery store. If you have trouble finding it, try a specialty market or order it off the internet (I love shopping in my jammies!).

Little Dipper CrockPot Peanut Butter Fondue

Day 312.

Good morning! Thank you so much for all of the nice notes about my back. Im definitely feeling better this morning. I did end up going to the doctor, which was a good idea. I guess my file still said I taught preschool, so the doctor was a bit concerned about bending and lifting. When I told him that I now write from home, he said, "youll be able to be pretty creative while taking this stuff!" and wrote me a prescription for muscle relaxers.
All they do is make me fall asleep, so I dont think youre in for any amazing creativity.

But this is good fondue! Happy Fondue Friday, everyone.

The Ingredients.

--3/4 cup peanut butter
--1/4 cup brown sugar
--1/4 cup cream or half and half
--1 tsp vanilla
--4 large marshmallows

The Directions.

Scoop your peanut butter into the Little Dipper. If you dont have a Little Dipper, you can put an oven-safe dish inside your crockpot to create a smaller cooking vessel.

Add the peanut butter, brown sugar, and cream. Push 4 large marshmallows into the mixture. Dont bother to stir now; the peanut butter will just stick to the spoon.

Cover and cook for about an hour. Stir well. Heat some more if it isnt all melty.

Serve with apple slices and celery sticks.

The Verdict.

I ate this in bed yesterday with a heating pad while watching Oprah. It was delightful.
